PRINCETON — Following the merger of Downtown Princeton Inc. and Princeton's Business and Retail Merchants Association last month, a new membership drive is under way.
DPI Director Dolli Neikirk said membership letters have been sent to small businesses this week. The business and retail merchant organization is traditionally a membership-based organization, and the membership option has been transferred to DPI.
"We understand that our local, small businesses are the backbone of our community, and have unique needs and challenges that larger, corporately backed businesses do not," said Neikirk. "Downtown Princeton Inc. has always been a champion for small businesses. Most Main Street organizations like Downtown Princeton Inc. are membership based, and this merger allows us to expand our service area and pursue a membership option in order to grow our support of small, locally-owned businesses throughout Princeton."
The organization plans to continue the spring and holiday preview events previously sponsored by the business and retail group, and is also looking into designing a map with member business locations, forming a committee to support member activities and promotions, and adding members to the board of directors for a voice and vote on member businesses.
Businesses are not required to be located in the downtown area of Princeton be a member.
Membership donation is $40 for 2017-18 with an option to lock in the membership for three years at $120. For more information about the organization, call 812-385-1922 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
