PRINCETON — The Gibson County Coroner is investigating the death of an Olney, Illinois, woman who died at the scene of a Friday morning accident. A Bellmont, Illinois man was critically injured in the Friday morning two-vehicle crash on Ind. 64 near CR 850 West in rural Gibson County, the Gibson County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a two vehicle accident at 5:30 a.m. Friday on Ind. 64 near the intersection of County Road 800 West in rural Gibson County.
A news release from the Gibson County Sheriff's Office says GCSO Deputy U.B. Smith and Sgt. John Fischer investigated the accident while Owensville-Montgomery Township Fire Department and Princeton Fire Territory first responders assisted medics with the Gibson County Ambulance Service in treating the injured at the scene.
The release says a westbound red 1992 Buick driven by Robert L. Christie Jr., 37, of Bellmont, crossed center line of the state highway and hit an eastbound tan 2000 Toyota 4Runner driven by Amanda J. Leonard, 34, of Olney.
Christie was taken to Gibson General Hospital by ambulance and transferred later by air ambulance to an Evansville hospital. Leonard died at the scene.
