FORT BRANCH — Clarence G. Schaefer, 91, of Fort Branch. passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.

He was born March 17, 1927, in Evanston, Indiana to Edward and Frances (Waninger) Schaefer.

Clarence was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch. He retired from the Emge Meat Packing Co. in Fort Branch after more than 30 years of service. Clarence also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Clarence married Ileilabelle Kast Sept. 14, 1957, in Tell City, Indiana. They were married for 61 years. Clarence belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid gardener and put out a garden for over 60 years.

Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by three siblings, Raymond Schaefer, Helen Harpenau, Cletus Schaefer.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife, Belle (Kast) Schaefer of Fort Branch; six children, Larry Schaefer of Fort Branch, Laura (Brian) Hatfield of Evansville, Luann (Bill) Sievern of Evansville, Lisbeth Miller of Westchester, Ohio, Lynette (Bill) Becker of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Lyle Schaefer of Fishers, Indiana; two sisters Mildred (Martin) Lindauer of Fort Branch, and Dorothy (Wilfred) Lindauer of St. Henry, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, Bennett (Alaina), Harrison, and Madison Hatfield, Will, Alec, and Claire Sievern, Anne, Sophie, and Carline Miller, and Jackson, and Thomas Becker.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fort Branch, with Fathers Tony Ernst and Ambrose Wanyoni co-celebrants.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Stodghill Funeral Home located in Fort Branch and again from 9 a.m. until service time at the church on Friday. A Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
