BUCKSKIN — Elsie Marie (Boedeker) Smith, 92, of Buckskin, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Nov. 27, 2017 at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville.

Elsie was born Feb. 1, 1925 on the family farm near Mackey to Henry and Sophie (Jeide) Boedeker. She graduated from Mackey High School in 1943 and married Cornelius B. Smith, Jr. on June 1, 1947. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of the Mackey/Buckskin area. She was a member of St. John Church in Buckskin. She was widely known for the strawberries that she grew and the flannel blankets that she made.

Elsie is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Bec Smith of Georgetown, and Rex and Michalene Smith of Evansville; grandchildren, Emily Sprigler (Eddie) of Georgetown, Allison Clayton (Brook) of Georgetown, Andrew Smith (Britney) of Newburgh, Julie Smith of Evansville and Kimberly Smith of Park Ridge, Illinois; great grandchildren, Blair Sprigler, Ace Sprigler, Faith Sprigler, Dane Sprigler, Everett Smith and Evan Clayton; nieces, Rita Maikranz (Danny), Linda Thompson (Toby), Susie Thorne (Ron) and Joanne Radigan; sister-in-law, Mary (Bigham) Boedeker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sophie in 1947 and Henry in 1985; husband, Junior Smith in 1988; brother, William Boedeker in 2010 and sister, Ruth (Boedeker) King in 2012.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. (CST) Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at St. John Church, 8260 Main St. (CR E 900 S) Buckskin, IN 47647, with Rev. Bill Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. (CST) Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, 323 N. Main St., Oakland City, IN 47660 and again on Friday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
