PRINCETON — James Hunt Fincher, Sr., 75, of Princeton, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in Evansville.

James was born in Sedan, Kansas, on Wednesday, March 24, 1943 to Murl and June (McAffee) Fincher, both of whom have preceded him in death. James was a local area resident since 1992. He was a 1961 graduate of Lassen High School of Susanville, California and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both Germany and Vietnam. He was a member of the Wesleyan Tabernacle of Princeton.

On Dec. 6, 1989, in Henderson, Kentucky, he married Shirley Reed.

James worked in the mail room at the Princeton Daily Clarion, responsible for preparing the newspapers and other print products for distribution. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2714 in Fort Branch. James enjoyed woodworking, fishing and abstract painting; many of his paintings have been displayed for the public.

James is survived by wife, Shirley, of Princeton, and three sons: James Ray Fincher of Libby, Montana, Gordon Hayes of Abilene, Texas, and Scotty (Theresa) Hayes of Chrisney; and three daughters, Aletha (Johnny) Schollian of Moss Point, Mississippi, Carla (Marty) Underwood of Evansville, and Stephanie (James) Dyer of Princeton. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild and one great grandchild.

The family has entrusted Doyle Funeral Home with arrangements. The family suggests memorial be made to the American Cancer Society at 5250 Vogel Rd. Evansville, IN, 47715.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Doyle Funeral Home, 520 S. Main St. Princeton, IN, with Rev. Kenneth Hurst officiating, cremation to follow. Military honors will take place at the funeral home, provided by the Retired Veterans Group.

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 2 p.m.
