EVANSVILLE — Jay L. Sparks, 63, of Haubstadt, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.

Jay was born in Indianapolis, March 23, 1954, son of Ronald and Edna (Beineke) Sparks. Jay graduated from George Washington High School class of 1972 and Oakland City University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. Jay worked at Conrail, and Algers, Winslow & Western Railway for several years. He was the Fire and Safety Coordinator at American Electric Power, in Rockport, from where he retired after 26 years.

Jay was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, and in the past, he enjoyed coordinating the church’s youth basketball program. Jay coached Haubstadt Community eighth grade girls’ basketball team. He was also a Gibson Southern High School assistant track and field coach. Jay enjoyed bearing witness to all of his children’s accomplishments. Jay loved traveling with his wife and children and had a passion for riding his motorcycle.

Jay may be remembered for many things, but most importantly he was known for being a loving father, devoted husband, and devout Christian.

Jay is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rebecca “Becky” (Ditzer) Sparks, sons Nathanael (Audrey Pleiss) Sparks and Jacob (Jenna Ottman) Sparks, daughter, Katerina Sparks, brother, Brian (Becky) Sparks of Indianapolis, sister, Carla (Jim) Kattman, of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dennis Sparks.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg, Rd, Evansville, IN 47725, with Pastor Cliff Herring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville
