OWENSVILLE — Larry L. Gambrel, 77, of Owensville, went to be with the Lord April 13, 2019.

He was born Jan. 14, 1942, to Vernon and Catherine Gambrel in Wadesville, Indiana. Larry graduated from North Posey High School in 1960, which was the first graduating class. He joined the Army right out of High School and proudly served for three years, 10 months, and 19 days. In the early 70s, Larry opened the Owensville Body Shop.

Larry will be remembered as a good honest and direct man. He was a great example for his family and community. Larry was a hard worker, loving family man, a good Christian, and modest about his achievements. He was known to have a great sense of humor and could be mischievous. Larry had many hobbies throughout life, which included bee keeping, fishing, tending garden, baseball sponsor and attending all the games his children and grandchildren played in. He was a member of the American Legion and Bible Center Cathedral in Evansville.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Brenda (Davis) Gambrel; and nephew Kent Gambrel.

Larry is survived by his wife of 17 years, Norma Gambrel; children LaTonna Gambrel, Melanie (Ron) East, Leah Kennedy, Gary (Ella) Stuteville, and Scott (Lara) Stuteville; siblings Linda (Ralph) Winterheimer, Charles (Bonnie) Gambrel, David (Sherri) Gambrel, and Dennis (Janet) Gambrel; 11 grandchildren, Trace, Levi, Skye, Jeremy, Ryan, Olivia, Madelyn, Eli, Savanna, Andy, and Matthew; five great-grandchildren, Wylie, Waylen, Whitlynn, Hunter, and Warren.

Holder’s Funeral Home is honored and privileged to be entrusted with the care of Mr. Gambrel. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at Holders Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Allan Shelby officiating. Interment will follow at Owensville Cemetery with Military rights.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion.
