FORT BRANCH — Mary Ann (Schmitt) Nelson, 59, of Fort Branch, born on April 7, 1959, in Evansville to Anthony M. and Rita C. (Elpers) Schmitt.

Mary Ann graduated in 1977 from Gibson Southern High School. Starting her lifelong career as a server at Lakeview then she went on to work at Haubs Steak House. Mary Ann met and worked with so many caring and loyal people that she loved. Mary Ann’s greatest loves were spending time with her kids and grandkids and going to different horse races with her husband.

She is preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law, Ronald and Maxine Nelson; sister-in-law Connie Beck; and godfather Raymond Schmitt.

Survived by her husband of 38 years, Steven Ray Nelson of Fort Branch; daughter, Ashley (Matt) Lory of Zionsville, Indiana; sons, William (Brittany) Nelson of Noblesville, Indiana, Samuel (Julie) Wartell of Jacksonville, Florida; five grandsons Tanner, Austin, Mason Lory, Luke Nelson, Harper Wartell; and one granddaughter, Amelia Wartell. She is also survived by her godmother, Lucy Schmitt; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Brothers and sisters, Anthony (Margaret) Schmitt of St. Wendel, Indiana; Michael Schmitt of Jasper, Indiana; Imogene (Don) Kurre of North Platt, Nebraska; Maggie (Steven) Nottingham of Poseyville, Indiana; Joe (Millie) Schmitt of Haubstadt; Walter Schmitt of Fort Branch; Annette (Sam) Scott of Owensville; Diana (Alan) Schmitt of Poseyville, Indiana; Cindy Schmitt of Haubstadt; and Jon (Beth) Schmitt of Fort Branch.

Visitation for Mary Ann will be Tuesday, April 9, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and again at the church on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, from 10 a.m. to service time at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.

Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Ernst and Father Ambrose Wanyoni officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Fort Branch.
