PRINCETON — Thelma Maedene “Dee” Akers, 82, of Princeton, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at her home.

She was born August 16, 1934 in Boonville. She managed Dollar General Stores in Princeton and Oakland City and member of First Baptist Church in Princeton

She is survived by her husband Thomas Akers of Princeton; children Janet Heitz of Princeton, Sue Rudman of Algonquin, Illinois, Sarah Sobanski of Des Plaines, Illinois, Donna McIntosh of Princeton and Sandra Boonsma of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bert O. Smith and Golda Mae (King) Combs; sons Donnie McCallister II and Andrew Akers; brother Basil Smith; and two sisters, Annabell Oster and Lorena Sebren.

Funeral service is at 2 p.m. Thursday at Colvin Funeral Home in Princeton, officiated by Rev. Jim Saunders. Burial follows in Oak Grove Cemetery, Poseyville. Visitation is from noon until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
