MIDWAY, Ky. -- The Oakland City Softball team snapped a six-game losing streak to start the season by splitting a pair of games at Midway College on Tuesday afternoon.
After dropping a heart-breaking 3-2 decision in 11 innings, the Lady Oaks picked up a thrilling 8-7 win in eight innings in the nightcap.
Reaghan Hensley smacked a two-out RBI double to deep centerfield in the top of the eighth inning as Misty Merter raced home from first for the game-winning run.
Merter kept the frame alive with a two-out walk.
With the win, Oakland City improves to 1-6 on the season.
The Lady Oaks raced out to an early 6-0 lead by scoring in each of the first three innings.
Oakland City pushed across two runs in the first, three more in the second and a single tally in the third.
Midway scratched across four runs in the last of the third frame to get back into the game.
A two-out RBI single by McKendree Ward gave the Lady Oaks a 7-5 lead in the top of the seventh.
Midway forced extra innings with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Ward finished the game with a 3-for-4 effort at the dish as she drove home three runs.
Hensley, Anna Orsborn, Lauren Stone and Demi Croak all collected two hits apiece in the win.
Caitlin Huff went the distance inside the circle for the win. Huff scattered 10 hits and allowed five earned runs while striking out three batters.
In the first game, the Lady Oaks grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth only to see Midway rally to tie the game in the home half before winning in walk-off fashion three innings later.

The game-winning run was scored on a one-out Lady Oaks throwing error.
Both Lady Oaks runs were unearned.
Lauren McCrary was inserted as a pinch runner for Huff in the fifth inning and would come around to score as Hensley reached on a fielding error.
Oakland City's tally in the eighth came after Stone reached on an error and scored on another error in which Ward reached base.
Valerie Lewis was the tough-luck loser for the Lady Oaks.
She pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits while striking out five batters.
Huff led a 5-hit attack at the plate for the Lady Oaks with a pair of hits in four trips to the plate.
Hensley, Lewis and Ward all collected one hit apiece.
Oakland City returns to the diamond this weekend with a four-game series at Kentucky Christian.
The two teams will play a pair of double headers both Friday and Saturday.
First pitch on Friday is 1 p.m. and 11 a.m on Saturday.
