OAKLAND CITY -- The Wood Memorial girls tennis team inched closer to their first win of the season, but came up just short Monday night.
Visiting North Daviess walked away with a 3-2 win over the Lady Trojans.
In one of the closest matches of the night, Hannah Thacker earned a win at No. 1 singles for Wood Memorial.
Thacker defeated Shaeanna Knepp, 7-5, 7-5.
"Hannah did a nice job of staying on her opponent and staying ahead in the match," Trojans coach Dan Bolin said of his top singles player.
Tori Daltry also found herself in a tightly contested match on the No. 3 singles court. Daltry dropped a tough 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 match to Chavannah Chestnut.
"Tori was right there in every point," Bolin said. "She just was not able to overcome it in the end. But I thought all the girls played really well tonight."
Rachel Pollock earned the Lady Trojans other point with a 6-1, 6-3 win on the No. 2 singles court over Lauren Kain.
"Rachel did a nice job of staying ahead in her game and she hit the shots that were needed to win," the Trojans coach said.
Wood Memorial's top tandem team of Taylor Houchins and Mykayla Spindler lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision, while Kiersten Bottoms and Bree Rowe dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 2 doubles.
The Lady Trojans won the junior varsity match, 2-1.
Wood Memorial returns to the court Wednesday at Washington Catholic for its first Blue Chip Conference match.
