This past Saturday, Princeton Community sophomore Chance Anderson took first-place in the 25th Annual Southern Indiana Bench Press and Squat Championships at South Spencer High School.
With hundreds of high school competitors in attendance, Anderson won the heavyweight division for freshmen and sophomores. Each competitor gets three lifts for the bench press, and three for the squat. Anderson started at 205 for bench press and won with a max of 255, while he started at 405 for the squat, and maxed out 450.
His combined weight of 705, edged out second-place finisher Baron Jones, who put up 485 on the squat, but just 205 on the bench press for a total of 690.
After failing to place as a freshman in 2017, Anderson worked to get better in the past year, and thought he had a legit chance to place this year.
"I've been lifting constantly since last year," he said. "And I wanted to go back, because I thought I could do something."
