The Gibson Southern High School Titans boys tennis team came to Princeton Community High School on Tuesday looking to take down the host Tigers.
The Titans, who beat the Wood Memorial High School Trojans earlier this season, swept Gibson County play with a 5-0 victory over the Tigers.
“I thought everyone played very well,” said Titans head coach Terry Wallace. “Matt’s kids always play hard and they played hard today. It was a good win for us.”
“Gibson Southern has a very nice team,” Tiger coach Matt Moade added. “My young men are going to have to understand that everything starts with footwork.
At No. 1 singles, Jarrett Klusmeier defeated Eric Flaningam 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles, Gavin Graper defeated Noah West 6-0, 6-3. Cameron Foster switched from doubles to No. 3 singles for a victory over Jevin Huey 6-0, 6-4.
Titan freshman No. 1 singles player Max Braselton was sick and did not play in the contest, setting up Klusmeier’s return to the No. 1 spot and everyone else moving up.
At No. 1 doubles, Daniel Knapp and Evin Birch took down Hunter Davis and Hunter McCandless 6-4, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles Derrick Lynn and Isaiah Kiesel defeated Lance Stucky and Brayden Tanner 6-3, 6-3.
“I saw improvements from some of my younger guys,” Moade added. “But it all starts with footwork and grip changes. They’re young, but we’re still moving forward.”
