POW-MIA Ceremony

VFW Post 2714 Auxiliary hosted a POW/MIA ceremony Oct. 13 as POW/MIA Recognition Day. The third Friday in October is set to honor all men and women in service who are still unaccounted for. There are nearly 80,000 servicemen still missing and unaccounted for. It also honors former POWs. Former POWs from Gibson county include Cletus Weiss, Bill “Red” Richardson and Henry Kissel. The remains of one native missing in action, Larry Stolz, were recovered and brought home for burial. Judy Williamson gave statics of those still missing and the auxiliary released 51 black balloons representing the 51 servicemen who are still missing from the Vietnam War from the state of Indiana. Members released one white balloon representing the hope of bringing the rest home.
