“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 NKJV
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36 NKJV
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’ ” John 14:6 NKJV
When you really know Jesus personally, truth becomes reality for you, and you can experience genuine freedom.
These quotes by Jesus from the Gospel of John can help pave your freedom path.
As a student at Bob Jones University in 1950, 1,200 of us formed a living cross, and the photograph was sent to periodicals nationally. The “Preacher Boys Class” theme song was: “Souls for Jesus is our battle cry.”
Graduating in 1954, 29 of my classmates and I earned the degree Bachelor of Arts in Practical Christian Training. My classmate Dick Snavely became one of the five co-founders with me of Youth Evangelism Association.
From 1951 through 1960, I co-directed Gospel Advertising Association with my father, Lawson Dooms, handling advertising for over 100 evangelists, to promote outreaches in 47 states. We placed “roadside missionaries” along busy highways with the message “Believe on Christ.”
From 1950 forward, I have been involved in evangelistic youth endeavors and multiple Christian communication outreaches.
Since 1966, TTT Christian Youth Ministries consistently endeavors to network with like-minded aggressively evangelistic, Bible believing, church-connected individuals and ministries.
In 1988, while serving as chairman of youth outreach with the Lowell Lundstrom crusade, we put together an outdoor event at TTT, and organized “Evansville‘s largest cruise,” taking 1,200 people to Roberts Stadium, where 8,000 gathered. Hundreds responded to the invitation to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Lowell Lundstrom introduced us to the ministry of Tommy Barnett, then pastor of Phoenix First Assembly of God. Tommy Barnett later co-founded the Los Angeles Dream Center. He emphasized God’s multiplication, saying: “God doesn’t do division.”
In his book “Multiplication,” Barnett says, “Churches that network will multiply.” He emphasized the need to “Pray … for the wisdom to seek out and network in ministry with other Christians.”
“Teenagers of Tri-state will unfurl their faith flags” was the headline of an article I wrote for the Evansville Press, March 1994. The song “Christ Through You Can Change the World” includes the phrase “Just keep your flag of faith unfurled, you can change the world.” That message continues to motivate me personally and has been accepted by thousands of people all over the world.
The first display of scores of unfurled Christian flags happened Easter Sunday afternoon, 1969. Over 1,000 teenagers and a few adults participated in the “Youth for Christ March” from TTT to Roberts Stadium to kick off the Bill Glass Crusade. Newspapers and television stations photographed the “flags of faith” unfurled.
Then on Good Friday night 1970, at the first Faith Festival, several hundred teenagers held pieces of cloth, and on cue, they stood, holding the red, white, and blue banners, forming a large, living, waving Christian flag. The crowd erupted with cheers.
A couple of years later, my wife Mary put together a giant Christian flag — the size of a basketball floor. It was hung behind the stage as the centerpiece of the third Faith Festival.
TTT Christian Youth Ministries has hosted or co-hosted many outstanding Christian communicators, especially for Saturday evening events. On four occasions, we were involved with evangelistic outreach concerts featuring Carman at Roberts Stadium. Many teenagers and adults have received youth evangelism training at TTT, being equipped to personally share God’s good news with individuals and invite them to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Carman and his team somewhat reluctantly agreed to allow teenagers to be trained in peer evangelism by TTT in 1992, serving as volunteers at the concert, sharing the Gospel, and praying with those who responded to the invitation. Carman’s ministry had only used adults in this role previously.
When Carman presented the invitation, several hundred youth responded. Backstage, TTT teenage evangelists shared God’s ABCs and prayed with small groups of other teenagers, leading them to Christ. Carman came backstage to observe, and commented: “I wouldn’t have believed that teenagers could do this if I hadn’t seen it myself!”
October 28, 2000, 13,000 filled Roberts Stadium for a Carman concert, and again hundreds responded to the invitation and were prayed with by teenagers trained at TTT.
Consistently reaching forward, God-willing TTT’s 3,000th consecutive Saturday is scheduled for July 29, 2023.
Meanwhile, Fair Share is scheduled for up to 15 Tri-state counties, June 19 through August 11. Evangelism training for adults and teenagers is scheduled June 10 and July 8. The need: People. Resources. Action. You. Pray for laborers in His harvest. Are you willing to share the TRUTH?
