HAUBSTADT — Haubstadt Fire Chief Eric Adamson told the town council Monday evening he’s holding off on buying shipping containers.

The council voted in March to allow the Haubstadt Fire Department to pursue a new training site.

Adamson told the board the department wants to build a new training site from shipping containers, using funds from the training budget.

Now, due to an increase in price, those purchases would be paused. Adamson said the price has raised to around $4,000 for a container.

In March he reported pricing around $1,800 to $2,500.

The money for the project is designated from the department training budget. Adamson said there is usually $15,000 in that line item of the budget each year and his plan would be to designate $10,000 of that toward the new site.

This would leave $5,000 for use if there are classes a firefighter needs to attend.

Adamson said this would be a multi-year project.

“To build one right, you’re looking at millions of dollars,” he said.

The purpose of the site would be to make sure firefighters on the department know what heat is before working an active fire.
