OAKLAND CITY — There's a lot new in store for the East Gibson School Corporation 2019-2020 school year, but one constant will be its building principals.
All three principal contracts were renewed at the East Gibson school board meeting Monday night, pending effective 2018-19 evaluations.
Matt Malin, principal at Oakland City Elementary School, had his contract extended for two years until June 30, 2021. His salary will remain the same at $73,289.88.
Wood Memorial Junior High and High School principal, James Wilson, has completed the first year of a two-year contract. The initial contract stated that after year one, and an effective evaluation, another year would be added. The board approved an additional year, making his contract now through June 30, 2021. His salary also remains the same at $84,150.
Jane Reed, principal at Francisco and Barton Elementary Schools, also completed the first year of an initial two-year contract. Per her initial contract, she was extended to June 30, 2021, and her salary was raised from $72,836 to $73,289.88 to establish the EGSC elementary school principal salary.
Students at Wood Memorial Junior and High School will have a new administrative face. The hired Leslie Boyd as an assistant principal. Boyd has been a third-grade teacher at Oakland City Elementary School.
"I'm really excited about this," Superintendent Henry Brewster said. "We haven't had a principal at the junior high in a while, so we're going to have an assistant under Mr. Wilson and her focus will be the junior high."
Board members also learned at Monday's monthly meeting that Wood Memorial High School will again not have a football program for the 2019-2020 school year.
Brewster said at most ten students have showed up for workouts, some days less, and numbers dictate whether a program is possible.
"Due to the low numbers, we will not have football for the 2019-2020 school year," he said. "That being said, we need to encourage our kids to focus on the fall sports that we do have at this time which include volleyball, tennis, and soccer."
