OAKLAND CITY — A collision between a Gibson County deputy's squad car and another vehicle on Ind. 57 Wednesday evening sent three people to the hospital.

Indiana State Police Public Information Officer Todd Ringle said Deputy Garrett Tuley was southbound on Ind. 57 from Oakland City while responding to assist a Haubstadt officer.

Ringle said the deputy's vehicle was operating with emergency lights activated.

Tuley was south of County Road 250 South when a Toyota driven by Robert Schmits, 58, Francisco, was attempting to pull out of a church property just south of the roadway and the two vehicles collided.

Schmits and passenger Nora Caskey, 47, were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries. Deputy Tuley was also transported as a precaution.

Ringle said the state trooper investigating the accident would be continuing the investigation Thursday at the scene.
