INDIANAPOLIS — Princeton Community High School's Marching Tigers are state finalists in Indiana State School Music Association's Open Class C field, winning the opportunity Saturday to advance to the state finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis next Saturday.

Director Scott Salmond's band performed their show "Hue" in blustery wind from the west at Decatur Central High School football stadium Saturday, competing in a field of 20 semistate bands.

While the band earned second place at state a few years ago in scholastic marching competition, the Tigers are making their first bid in the open class competition since 1991.

According to ISSMA records, the Tigers finished in fourth place among Class C bands in 1992, 10th in that class in 1989, sixth in 1986, 1985, 1984 and 1983, third in 1982, second in 1977, won the state championship in 1976 and placed fourth in 1975.

ISSMA has not yet released performance times for the Nov. 9 finals at Lucas Oil Stadium.
