PRINCETON — There were few surprises when the ballots were counted in Tuesday's municipal primary elections for Oakland City and Princeton.
PRINCETON
Incumbent Princeton Common Council District 2 candidate Bill Tuley was defeated by challenger James Wilkerson in the Republican primary by a 38-25 margin, setting up a fall general election race between Wilkerson and Democrat Dan Beard, who won the Democratic nomination unopposed with 25 votes Tuesday.
Former Princeton water superintendent Dennis Gray defeated Kristofer Brandon Wilhite by a 56-37 margin in the District 3 Common Council Republican primary, for the chance to challenge incumbent Democrat Jim Maglis, who won his nomination unopposed with 17 votes.
Tuley's son, Republican Mark Tuley, was unopposed in his bid for the GOP nomination in the Common Council District 1 primary. He faces incumbent Democrat Jan Ballard, who garnered 21 votes in his uncontested primary.
Neil Moody garnered 37 votes in the Common Council District 4 GOP primary. No Democrat primary candidate filed for the seat held by Democrat Sheri Greene, who opted not to seek re-election.
Bruce McIntosh, appointed by GOP caucus to fill the remaining term of Nick Burns as the at-large member of the council, garnered 203 votes among 241 cast in the Republican Primary. No Democrat filed for the post in the primary.
Princeton Clerk-Treasurer David Kennard, who was appointed by caucus to fill the unexpired term of Mindy Brines last year, was unopposed as a GOP primary candidate for the seat leading the ticket with 215 votes among the total 241 GOP ballots cast. No Democrat filed for the seat in the primary.
Princeton Mayor Greg Wright, also unopposed, garnered 209 votes among the 241 cast in the Republican primary. No Democrat filed for the seat in the primary.
OAKLAND CITY
Tuesday's voting brought a 23-23 tie in the Oakland City Common Council District 4 GOP race between Bethany Brewer and Kaye Ellen Gowin. No Democrat filed in that primary.
In a three-way GOP primary for the Oakland City Common Council District 3 nomination, Megan Tapley won with 23 votes over Phil Sloan (8 votes) and Robert Wilson (8 votes). In the November general election Tapley faces Democrat Shannon Conder, who was unopposed in her District 3 nomination bid, collecting five votes.
Michael McGregor won the Oakland City District 2 Common Council GOP nomination by a 43-8 margin over Rebecca S. Frederick.
In other common council races, Brady Egdorf garnered 28 votes for the District 1 GOP nomination. No Democrat filed for the seat. Democrat Charles Cochren was unopposed in his primary bid for the at-large common council seat, collecting 41 votes. No Republican filed for that seat in the primary.
Sally Duncan defeated Jeanette Houchins 85-80 for the Oakland City Clerk-Treasurer GOP nomination. No Democrat filed for the primary.
Oakland City Mayor Jim Deffendall, unopposed in the GOP primary in his bid for re-election, led the ticket with 155 of 169 total ballots cast in the primary. No Democrat filed for the mayoral primary.
