PRINCETON — Betty L. (Davis) Leathers, 90, of Princeton, closed her eyes to this world and opened them in Heaven to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Moultrie, Georgia.
She was born in Marcus, Iowa, Wednesday, June 24, 1931, to Jollie David Davis and Lena May (Holmes) Davis. Betty graduated from Patoka High School in 1949 and fondly referred to her class as “The 49ers.”
Before retiring, Betty was a cook at the former Holiday Manor Nursing Home in Princeton. She was an avid supporter of her children, never missing an event they were involved in, including Little League, art classes, and piano lessons. She was a Band Mom for the PCHS Marching Tigers and Winter Guard and later a Band Grandma supporting her granddaughter. One of Betty’s favorite things to do was to bake cookies and give them away as an extension of her love, especially to family, friends, and band kids.
Betty L. Leathers had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved to listen to her Bible and old hymns on CD. She was a member of the Oak Grove General Baptist Church in Oakland City for over 50 years and taught Sunday School to children in grades kindergarten — second grade for many years.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Kevin) Mason of Ft. Branch, Sheryl (widow of Tim) Meyer of Princeton, DeNeice (Fred) Smith of Moultrie, Georgia, and Don Leathers of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; brother, Boyd (Karen) Davis of Carmel; grandchildren, Raychel (Jason) Adams, Emilee Cunningham (Bryan Smith), Kayla (Joey) Wells, Amanda Smith, Austin Smith (Cierra Glover), and Sarah Meyer; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte (Davis) Summers; two brothers, Delbert Davis and Vernon Davis; son-in-law, Tim Meyer; and grandson, Mike Cunningham.
Per Mrs. Leather’s request, cremation took place in Georgia.
Celebration of life service is at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021 at Oak Grove Baptist Church located at 805 W. Morton St, Oakland City, IN 47660.
Visitation with the family is from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Private interment of cremains will take place at a later date.
