MACKEY — James “Jim” Skelton, 89, of Mackey, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023 at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg.

He was born in Mackey March 29, 1933 to Vernon Hershel Skelton and Cleta Marie (Shuey) Skelton. Jim served in the United States Army in Germany from 1956 to 1957. He attended Oakland City College on a scholarship for basketball to become a teacher. He then proceeded to Indiana State University for his master’s degree to become a principal. He worked 15 years as Mackey High School principal, then a bit in construction. Jim was a member of the Eagles and a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed trips with his brother to country music shows in Branson, Missouri. Jim will be remembered as a kind and good person. He was loved and will be missed.

Jim is survived by two daughters and his brother, Joe Skelton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Jean Schwiersch.

Graveside funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Albright Cemetery in Mackey with Pastor Matt Malin officiating ,and interment to follow. Mackey Salem United Methodist Church will host a gathering to share stories after the service.
