WINSLOW — Allen W. Nelson, 70, of Winslow, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019 at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1949 in Huntingburg, to Samuel J. and Lela I. (Bottoms) Nelson. He graduated from Winslow High School and attended a Purdue surveying class. He was a surveyor for the Indiana Department of Transportation and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71. He retired from Old Ben Coal Company as a drilling and shooting supervisor. He was a former member of the Society of Explosive Engineers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Pike County Bassmasters.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl of Winslow; children, Dan (Dana) of Evansville and Scott (Kaitlyn) of Petersburg; four grandchildren; and a sister, Connie Gilmore of Vincennes.

Private graveside service with military rites performed by Retired Military Veterans is planned. Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City.
