OAKLAND CITY — Norma Ruth McGillem, 95, of Oakland City died Sept. 10, 2020, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City.

She was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Pike County to James and Grace (Masters) Shepherd.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Verner R. McGillem, whom she married on Jan. 6, 1942; son James V. McGillem; daughter Brenda Richardson; and grandson Gregory McGillem.

She lived in Oakland City most of her life. She and her husband delivered water to their community for several years. She attended New Life Tabernacle Church in Oakland City.

She is survived by her; daughter Barbara (Paul) Schmitt of Oakland City, and son Timothy McGillem of Ft. Branch; sisters Betty Purl and Janice Johnson of Petersburg; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held Friday Sept. 18, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the Cloin Cemetery near Petersburg.
