Masks will still be needed

I am excited as are a lot of Gibson Countians, Hoosiers, and Americans that the COVID vaccines are on the way.

There is a dim light at the end of a long tunnel through which we must travel.

I am also fearful that many people in our county, state, and country will throw caution to the wind and think a mask is no longer needed. “Now is not the time to be careless, reckless, or defiant” is a quote from Dr. Peter Hotez.

It will be many months until we have at least 70% of the population immunized.

So it is necessary to wear masks, social distance, and wash hands.

There are other protocols depending on the county metric.

It is noted that the vaccine will prevent one getting sick from COVID, but it is yet to be determined whether one could have the virus and not get sick, yet one would be able to shed/spread the virus to others.

That will be determined as time passes and more information is available. Remember these current vaccines were given emergency use authorization and did not complete the full two year trial that is standard.

So residents of Gibson County: Mask Up, Social Distance, and Wash Hands!
