A glance at what’s ahead on the sports front

Hard to believe summer is here and in full swing. I was finally able to get out on the links and swing the sticks last week but we won’t discuss that here though!

Seems like just a month or so ago I was embarking on this new journey here in Gibson County.

But as the old saying goes, time flies by when you’re having fun!

And the past six months have been a ton of fun!

Anyway...moving forward with a little notice of what’s on tap.

Starting with Thursday’s Clarion, the all-area teams will be announced.

The all-area girls tennis team will be first up.

In no particular order: boys golf, boys and girls track and field (two separate stories), baseball and softball all-area teams will follow.

At the conclusion of all the area teams being published, Player of the Year for each spring sport will be announced as well.

For those keeping track, Player of the Year athletes were not announced for the winter sports.

With me not coming aboard until near the end of the season, I did not feel comfortable naming POY for those sports with not getting to see everyone.

Speaking of Player of the Year, after all of the aforementioned lists have been published, the Female, Male and Coach of the Year Awards will also be announced.

Those three awards have not yet been determined. So if you are a coach reading this and you feel like you have an athlete who is a strong candidate please feel free to contact me.

I will say this much, I do have a short list compiled and the Male Athlete of the Year is pretty much a slam dunk deal, but the concrete is not completely dry as of yet.

So my inbox is always open and my cell phone (my office number comes directly to my cell) is always on.

Also for the school officials and athletic directors who want to make a case for coach of the year, again, feel free to contact me.

Last piece of business to disclose...summer sports.

I have not been able to connect with a lot of the coaches/teams who have already commenced summer workouts. So please send me your schedules of camp dates, shootouts, tournaments, etc.

This time of year I am always looking for events to come out and get some photos of and report.

And feel free to send me photos and information on anything I may have not had a chance to attend.

I will never turn down photos and information on your programs, so send away!

Thanks to those who have already reached out and helped with your information.

It’s all greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and for all of you tennis fans, be sure to pick up a copy of Thursday’s Clarion to read about the seven players who landed on the all-area team!
