The Wood Memorial Lady Trojans’ first Blue Chip Conference test of the season did not go as planned Monday as they were run-ruled 14-0 by the Barr-Reeve Lady Vikings in Montgomery.
Barr-Reeve wasted no time jumping on Lady Trojan starting pitcher Taylor McKannan as in the bottom of the first Grave Butcher hit an RBI single to give the Lady Vikings a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Barr-Reeve added three to their total as Jenna Harrison lined a two-run single and later scored on an error to give the Lady Vikings a 4-0 lead.
The bottom of the third saw the Lady Vikings create separation as Chloe Graber singled home a pair of runs and Hannah Grabber smacked a grand slam over the right field fence to give Barr-Reeve a 10-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Butcher ripped an RBI double and Corrine Corbin hit a two-run double, pushing the lead to 13-0.
Barr-Reeve would add an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth as Hannah Graber hit her second home run of the ball game on a fly ball to center, pushing the lead to 14-0.
Needing five runs in the top of the fifth to avoid being run-ruled, the Lady Trojans offense could not come through as after Mia Strickland hit a leadoff single, Hannah Graber on in relief struck out the side including retiring Layney Robbins to end the game.
Hannah tossed three innings of relief to earn the win allowing just two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out six while going 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and five RBI’s.
The Lady Trojans had just four hits in the contest, with Strickland and LeeAnn Melton both hitting a pair of singles, but head coach Fred Reel was happy with some of the hard contact his team made.
“We made good contact with the ball when we made contact, Reel said. “Just not enough bats to balls.”
The Lady Trojans will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they play host to White River Valley.
