FORT BRANCH — The Pocket Athletic Conference announced its realignment plans Wednesday after voting to accept new members back in early June.
New members include Princeton, Boonville, Mt. Vernon, and Washington. Tuesday, the PAC Board of Directors voted to create two divisions for its football teams, based on enrollment.
Small enrollment division will includes Pike Central, Southridge, North Posey, Tell City, South Spencer, and Forest Park.
The large enrollment division includes Boonville, Gibson Southern, Washington, Princeton, Heritage Hills, and Mt. Vernon.
Tecumseh will remain independent in football and the divisions will be reclassified every four years. A division champion will be based on division wins and losses.
The PAC also announced guidelines for determining conference champions.
Girls basketball, soccer, tennis, softball, and volleyball, along with boys baseball, basketball, soccer, and tennis, will play all conference schools with a conference champion determined by conference wins and losses.
Girls cross country, golf, swimming, track, and boys cross country, golf, swimming, track, and wrestling, will host conference tournaments to determine a conference champion.
Prior to the addition of these schools, the PAC consisted of nine member schools: Forest Park, Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, North Posey, Pike Central, Southridge, South Spencer, Tell City, and Tecumseh.
Thursday, Gibson Southern High School announced its 2020 football schedule following the PAC announcement.
“I believe this schedule is really exciting for our program and our non-conference schedule is one of the toughest in our area in recent memory,” said Gibson Southern head coach Nick Hart in a release. “We get to keep our biggest rivals and add some news ones with the realignment. It will be a great challenge in 2020.”
Gibson Southern’s schedule is as follows:
Scrimmage - Evansville Central
Week 1 - at Columbus North (6A)
Week 2 - Owensboro Senior High (5A/KY)
Week 3 - Washington (3A)
Week 4 - Southport (6A)
Week 5 - at Southridge (3A)
Week 6 - at Heritage Hills (3A)
Week 7 - Mt. Vernon (3A)
Week 8 - Princeton (3A)
Week 9 - at Boonville (4A)
Gibson Southern Athletic Director Jon Adams stated in the release that the school has thoroughly enjoyed its time in the PAC, and with the restructuring, it was time to add teams to the schedule that would prepare the program for potential postseason matchups.
“There is no question that this schedule will present many challenges for our student athletes,” Adams stated. “We are excited to see how hard they are willing to work to be able to compete every week with these opponents.”
