NEWBURGH — The Gibson Southern boys swim team saw their season come to an end Monday after a fifth-place finish during the Castle IHSAA State Sectional.

Dawson Maurer made the podium twice individually for the Titans, placing fourth overall in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 Back.

His time of 2:10.35 in the 200 IM broke his own school record set in January,

Logan McClain won both the B Finals races in the 200 Free and 500 Free, placing ninth overall in both events. His time of 5:37.77 in the 500 Free broke his own school record that was also set in January.

Lucas Lingafelter finished 12th in the 100 Fly and 14th in the 100 Back for the Titans, Devin Murphy finished 15th in the 500 Free, Christopher Spear finished 15th in the 200 IM and Erick Hirsch finished 16th in the 500 Free.

The 400 Free Relay team of Maurer, McClain, David Hirsch and Griffin Mercer finished sixth and lowered their school-record time by with a new record of 3:47.63.

The 200 Medley Relay of Lingafelter, Mercer, Dawson Maurer, and David Hirsch finished seventh, while the 200 Free Relay of Christopher Spear, Logan Tooley, Elliot Church, and Max Stoll finished ninth.

The Titans finished their season with an overall record of defeating 27 teams and only losing to 10.

Of the 11 events, seven new school records were set throughout the season.

“I must say for our combined boys and girls swim programs to defeat 50 teams and lose to only 26 throughout the season,” head coach Doug Schneider said.

“Amidst the many challenges presented throughout this season, is an amazing accomplishment. These Titan and Lady Titan swimmers did not let the obstacles presented to them get in the way of incredible performances, with 14 new school records broken during the season as well.

“We as coaches are very proud of these students athletes for what they’ve done in and out of the water.”
